LAMP & AAC
Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) is a term that refers to the various methods of communication that can help individuals who have severe speech or language problems communicate in ways other than verbal speech. ACC can come in many forms such as sign language, picture exchange, mobile device apps, or speech generating device. Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP) is an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) approach developed to provide those who are nonverbal or have limited verbal abilities with the means to spontaneously and independently communicate through use of a speech-generating device. TLC’s staff implements the LAMP approach with our children daily in classrooms and therapy sessions through use of the LAMP Words for Life app on over 20 iPads to help meet communication needs. With this method, we hope to foster language development and provide every child a way to express their wants, needs, and ideas.
